The Barbet is also known as the French Waterdog.  A CKC recognized breed they hold a place in the sporting group.  Barbets history stretches back to ancient times. Generally accepted theories are they descended from corded herding dogs originating in North Africa.  The Barbet is said to contribute to the Poodle, Bishon, and Briard.  Many theories abound and modern history of the Barbet is mostly anecdotal, but one thing is certain the Barbet is here to stay.

In my words Barbets are medium sized, non-shedding, medium energy breed.  Easily described they are like a lab or golden in a non-shedding coat.  They are eager to please and enjoy both the company of people and dogs.  Gentle and loyal the Barbet has a wonderful temperament that is neither fearful nor aggressive. They are a versatile and intelligent breed. They also may be classed in the hypoallergenic group, although we recommend allergy suffers to test themselves with our dogs.
